Open Bathroom Remodel | Campbell, CA

Barrier free bathroom remodel with new materials.

In this total bathroom remodel we eliminated the old tub shower and pocket door, removing barriers for increasing safety openness. We focused on high grade man made materials to achieve long lasting finishes at a modest price point.

Blocking & Furring

We generously blocked inside the walls for the cantilevered vanity and other accessories, and needed to furr out the main wall to resolve a width difference between what used to be two rooms.

Expanded Electrical System Coverage

New electrical junctions were added to support LED lighting, USB charging, a future hard wired bidet, and a low mounted automatic nightlight.

Crimped Copper Plumbing and an External Shower Valve

A previous valve repair required difficult rear access in the adjacent stairwell, subsequently we utilized an external valve design to simplify future service with a modern European look.

Thin HDPE Toilet Flange support to match LVP flooring thickness.

The new luxury vinyl plank floor was significantly thinner than what it replaced, this created a problematic condition around the toilet flange, which was previously supported by a 1/2” plywood bridge. In order to bring the toilet down to the new finished floor, we created a novel solution with a piece of 1/4” HDPE that is more structural than a similar wood product and impervious to moisture.

Advanced tile installation w/ Dens Shield, Schluter System, Porcelain Tile

The custom shower was the highest intesity aspect of the project. We used low expansion foam to set and adhere the shower pan into the space, and used fiber reinforced cement board as a high quality substrate for our tile installation. On top of this we used the high performance Schluter system decoupling membrane under the high grade porcelain tile.

2nd Bathroom

We also did a partial remodel of the second bathroom to match the 1st.
